Identify the roach first

Treatment approaches
- German cockroaches need indoor treatment: gel baits in cracks, insect growth regulators that stop reproduction, and follow-up visits. In multi-unit buildings, treating neighboring units makes a big difference.
- American and Oriental cockroaches are mostly an outdoor-to-indoor problem: perimeter treatment, drain treatment, sealing gaps under doors and around pipes, and reducing moisture.
Things you can do now
- Keep drains covered or plugged at night if large roaches are coming up through them.
- Fix dripping faucets and leaks under sinks.
- Don't leave pet food or dishes out overnight.
- Store cardboard off the floor in garages; it's a favorite hiding place.
